A Father's Message

The party woke up in the leisure room of Elminster's tower. Selena looked at images from her childhood. Sagiato noticed the images displayed a variety of styles, techniques, and art forms. Sagiato specifically observed an image depicting a birthday party for Selena, rendered in the style of Arborea, where her father presented her with a mechanical bird. Weneon examined the collection of images, searching for anything of material worth beyond their sentimental value, and found a Mnemonic Lens. Mr. Wickett prepared coffee for the party, after which they ate breakfast. During breakfast, Sagiato asked Selena if he could experience an electric shock again, hoping it would trigger memories in his mind as it had during the previous day's fight against the bots. "Memories should not be triggered like that to become feelings again," Selena told Sagiato. While they continued eating, Manasa was taking a shit with the door to the latrine left open.

After breakfast, the party explored the ground floor of the tower. They located the Control Room where they began an interrogation of Mr. Wickett, asking about various matters. Mr. Wickett explained that Elminster once traveled with both Janus and Lena. He also mentioned Elminster suffered from the New Dawn Memory Disease. Mr. Wickett revealed that two distinct sects of bots within the tower referred to and worshipped Selena as "Mother Selena" and Elminster as "Father Elminster." He further stated that Selena had, at some point, banned access to everyone. According to Mr. Wickett, Elminster traveled through time 33 years ago, specifically 1004 years distance. The party learned that Tasha and Babayaga were potentially mother and daughter. Mr. Wickett clarified that Elminster did not have time to distribute the capes. Elminster departed to seek treatment for the New Dawn Memory Disease. Finally, Mr. Wickett explained that orbs governed through planes, time, and place, allowing the tower to travel through them. After the interrogation concluded, the party asked Mr. Wickett if he could escort them to the second floor. Mr. Wickett stated that he could not, but then a small, cute bot emerged from him. This bot, named Wiki, was the real brain of Mr. Wickett. Wiki scanned Weneon and immediately detected that Weneon possessed the lens. Weneon then handed the lens to Selena, who took it and ran directly into the leisure room.

The party ran after Selena into the leisure room. They found Selena staring at the photographs through the Mnemonic Lens. Selena then explained that using the lens might allow them to enter memories and restore her own. Selena looked into the Mnemonic Lens again, focusing on a specific photograph. The image showed a twelve-year-old Selena and Elminster, her father, walking through a volcano. Selena then disappeared into the photograph, leaving the lens and the physical image behind on the table. The party followed Selena into her memories. They found themselves battling several Dream Watchers within the vision. After the party defeated the Dream Watchers, Selena's memories of that particular trip with Elminster were unlocked. They returned to the leisure room of the tower. Selena zapped Sagiato with a technical wand. This action triggered a sharp recall in Sagiato. He remembered leaving his ill daughter to find a cure promised to him by a general long ago. The general died, and Sagiato returned home without any cure. He found his daughter dead and his wife had hanged herself. As he stood watching his wife in the barn, he heard people shouting outside. His recall ended abruptly at that point. Selena then told the party that her own memory had also been restored. She explained that on that day, the image depicting them in the volcano, they were actually going to retrieve the Thirsty Ore. That ore would once again ignite Phandelver. Selena concluded that the photos in the leisure room were not merely sentimental items from her father. Instead, they served as a complex message intended only for her, a message she could decipher only by accessing her lost memories. Kilijan asked Selena, "Memories of what?" Selena replied directly, "Of the manufacturing of the Cape of Leaves."
