Luvian Mahkeep(Luvian)
Early Life
Little is known about Luvian's early life. Records mention him growing up as an orphan, left as a baby at the doorsteps of the Three Corners Tavern, a shady tavern in Sembia.
He made his way to the west as a teenager and became a small-time crook in Baldur's Gate before joining the Thieve's Guild in Waterdeep, where he quickly rose up the ranks in Xanathar's army.
Xanathar's Right Hand Man
During his time in the Thieve's Guild, Xanathar redirected more and more of his responsibilities to Luvian. Other members started calling him "Xanathar's Right Hand Man".
Luvian proved his loyalty to the guild over the years, being a reliable ally to Xanathar and his quest to power.
The Psion Children
When Xanathar learned about two psion children discovered in Zhentil Keep, whose blood was used for creating Delirium, a powerful and dangerous potion used by Vecna's army during the Dawn of Vecna campaign, he decided to send Luvian to see after retrieving the children to Waterdeep.
On his way to Zhentil Keep, Luvian came across Vates, a former commander of Vecna and the leader of the Boneshields orc clan. Realizing that Vates and his army where on the same mission as he was, Luvian offered his services to him, successfully deceiving him to be a "desperate adventurer down on his luck". Vates agreed and together they proceeded to Zhetil Keep.
While travelling with Vates and his Boneshield orcs, Luvian became aware of the powerful poisons Vates was producing from the fangs of the Wyvern they carried with them.
One night, during a rest in the Spiderhaunt Woods, Luvian overheard Vates speaking to Lakrima through a sending stone about his mission. From what Luvian was able to gather from that conversation, the children were to be used to locate Vecna's artifacts and retrieve them.
Having no time to spare, Luvian left Vates' party during the night, and proceeded to Zhentil Keep alone.
While traversing the forests of Cormathor, just south of Zhentil Keep, he noticed two wounded humanoids making their way through the woods: a human barbarian named Vaella and Isranell, a commoner elf. He engaged them and learned that they were fleeing Zhentil Keep after setting fire to their master's house.
Seeing that Isranell was fatally wounded, Luvian convinced Vaella to leave her with him to cure her. Vaella agreed and continued her escape through the woods after saying goodbye to her best friend.
Once Vaella was gone, Luvian examined Isranell's wounds, which were beyond mending. She died in his arms a few minutes later.
While contemplating what to do with her body, Luvian heard a searching party approaching: the guards of Zhentil Keep. Luvian quickly picked up Isranell's body and shouted: "I got one of them, boys!"
The guards brought Luvian back to the town, where he immediately gained the trust of Lord Willfort, Vaella's and Isranell's former owner.
Luvian knew that Vates and his orcs would arrive in three-days time, so he had to act quickly. During one night of drinking with Lord Willfort, he managed to learn the whereabouts of the psion children Lena and Janus.
On the night Vates and his party arrived in Zhentil Keep, Luvian managed to gain access to the dungeon where the children were kept. With no time to escape without being noticed by the rampaging orcs in Zenthil Keep, Luvian used his rope trick to hide himself and the children in a pocket dimension. However, Vates' antimagic field rendered this attempt fruitless.
As the orcs where approaching the cell where Luvian was hiding with the children, Lena asked Luvian if he was "really their savior". Unsure what to say to the girl, Luvian just nodded his head, after which Lena put her hand on his forehead. Luvian's blood began to boil as a never before felt power shot through his body. "Now, get us out of here," Lena said, after which Luvian summoned a teleportation circle. He grabbed the children and stepped through it, arriving in his chambers of the Thieves' Guild in Waterdeep.
Betraying Xanathar and Meeting the Leaves
After delivering the children to Xanathar, Luvian became untouchable in the eyes of every guild member. Xanathar grew obsessed with the children and the potential of their power. His goals changed from "selling the children to the highest bidder" to "using them to become the ruler of the entire Sword Coast".
Approximately one year after the children arrived, Janus managed to escape, feeling tired of being manipulated by the Beholder. He failed, however, to retrieve his sister Lena, who constantly repeated that this life is the best they could wish for.
It was at this time when a new member quickly rose through the ranks of the guild, a drow rogue by the name of Arahna von Sventh. She quickly became known as "Xanathar's Left Hand" and rivaled with her ruthlessness Luvian's position in the hierarchy.
Luvian, ridden by guilt after Janus' escape, tried to convince Arahna to help him free Lena, but the drow refused and reported Luvian's proposal to Xanathar himself.
Xanathar summoned Luvian to his chambers and proposed to him that, if he were to get him the means to reign over Neverwinter, he could have Lena. Luvian accepted the offer and came up with a plan to assassinate Neverember and use the power vacuum afterwards to install Xanathar as the Lord of Neverwinter.
Luvian remembered the powerful wyvern poison of the Boneshields and managed to track down one of their camps a days walk north of Leilon. While surveilling them for a few days, he came across the Leaves, convincing them to help him free the orcs' wyvern.
To Luvian's surprise, the Leaves attacked the orcs head on and engaged them in a fierce battle. Using the mayhem as a distraction, Luvian rescued the wyvern and successfully escaped, making his way to Helm's Hold.
His attempt to create the poison was successful, and after a few days of tinkering, he managed to create a vile with Neverember's name on it. It was then when he heard about the Leaves again, making a name for themselves in Helm's Hold and even becoming quaint with one of the high judges of Neverwinter, Xanthar Slowwing, who invited them to the Neverwinter Castle.
His plan was to use their invitation to gain access to Neverember. After the red dragon attack on Helm's Hold, Luvian joined the Leaves and they made their way to Neverwinter. However, one of the members of the Leaves forgot the invitation in Helm's Hold. Luvian suggested that it would be quicker for him to retrieve the letter by himself, leaving the Leaves to wait for him at the Giant's Grave Hill.
Meeting old Friends
While making his way back to Helm's Hold, Luvian was captured by Boneshield orcs and brought to Vates. Eager to kill Luvian for his betrayal, Vates started to drain his blood, similar to the ritual he performed with children when creating delirium. Vates noticed, however, that his blood already contained traces of the compositions needed for creating delirium without the need of torturing.
Vates reported his findings to Lakrima, who decided to use Luvian in the ritual she was conducting beneath the cathedral of Helm's Hold. She sent a doppelganger in the form of Luvian back to the Leaves in order to raise no suspicions.
Luvian was brought to the dungeon underneath the cathedral to serve as the source of power for Lakrima's Delirium Aboleth. However, before the ritual could be conducted, the Leaves infiltrated the catacombs and defeated the night hag sisters Lakrima put in charge of the operation.
During this fight, Luvian died by a fireball spell evocated by Gambino of the Leaves.
