The Trial of Malcer Lynk Hornraven

As soon as the conditions to choose the trial are given to the party by Lena's voice, Mycha approaches the beech tree and stabs it with his scimitar. The other two trees rot in an instance and Lena's voice proclaims that the choice has been made. Kilijan starts cutting down the beech tree with an axe and reveals a hidden concrete compartment underneath the tree's roots. He breaks the concrete seal harboring the emblem of the Leaves on it with an inscription saying: property of Odd Wellcall. From the compartment, a metal cylinder is retrieved. The cylinder is locked by a three-cypher combination lock. Weneon concludes that the inside of the cylinder is protected by a substance called liquid bite, which will destroy the content if the combination is entered incorrectly.

The party argues for a while on what the combination might be. Mycha shows signs of unstableness and threatens to violently open the cylinder. Lorkhan teleports him to a plateau next to the God's Plateau so he can cause no harm. God's plateau trial of malcer The party tries a combination and fails. As the cylinder opens, the content,a scroll, is consumed by liquid bite. Lena's voice is heard saying: You who are reading this are ready to inflict as much pain as necessary. You who do not know whose throat can be cut by one stroke of your sword centuries in the future. You for choosing to make it harder, not easier. Kill him, and prove your decision. Spare him, and become a martyr yourself. Once her voice dies down, a musician commoner is materialized in front of the statue. Lorkhan kills him immediatelly as he starts to run away. After that, a commoner housewife is materialized in the same place. Lorkhan kills her as well. A lumberjack appears next. Mycha kills him after torchering him for a short while. A paladin with a bloody sword appears. He immediately starts attacking the party when he sees the dead bodies around them. Weneon shoots him dead. A blacksmith appears next and is killed by Lorkhan again. Weneon decides to leave the plateau, and steps through the fog that appeared around it when the trial started. Kilijan goes after him, but waits for a second to talk sense into the rest of the party. A merchant by the name of Sovin Gavin appears, Mycha starts interrogating him about his lifestyle. The merchant is confused and repeatedly asks what they want from him. Mycha kills him after the argument leads to nowhere. A female field worker appears next. She immediately starts praying to her god, grasping tightly onto the pendant around her neck. Mycha grabs the pendant and wants to rip it from her. Kilijan approaches and smacks Mycha's hand away. Kilijan then takes a vial of poison and administers it to the woman. She dies in prayer. Kilijan then follows Weneon off of the plateau into the white fog. The next commoner appears and Mycha and Lorkhan let him run away. As the commoner leaves the plateau, Lena's words are heared and the fog is lifted. She says: "You decided how much you are willing to inflict, now deal with the consequences." As she says this, the dragon with the medallion of records appears and attacks the party.

The party manages to defeat the dragon and to retrieve the medallion from him. As the dragon sowers downwards to Thur Valley, the Cape of Leaves Rarrosh threw into the wind lands onto Lena's statue. She tells the party that the essence of Malcer is contained in the cape. The same cape worn by Odd Wellcall, a kind spirit that, just as Malcer, lost everyone and was left to nothing besides her morality and choice. She adds that Weneon and Kilijan deemed themselves worthy of it. Weneon tells Kilijan to take the cape. As Kilijan puts it on, he seems to learn of Malcers essence, remembering him in a faint manor, like a memory he once had in a long forgotten dream. The medallion of records starts glowing and the first poem is unlocked, granting the party a vision of the New Leaves.

The Medallion of Records presented a detailed vision. It revealed that Omihi Duskwalker, daughter of Lorilon, had discovered the existence of the Soulmonger quest. Upon this discovery, Omihi began to assemble a group known as The New Leaves to complete it. The New Leaves consisted of Omihi Duskwalker, who wore the Cape of Leaves belonging to Lorilon. Adona Lonewalker, the stepdaughter of Darius, was also a member, wearing Darius’s Cape of Leaves. Odd Wellcall, the sister of Even, joined them, wearing Malcer’s Cape of Leaves. Sha Shou Ho, Raijin’s sister, wore Raijin’s Cape of Leaves. The final member was Arahna, Omihi’s wife, who joined after Omihi died during an Orc raid on Nidfor, seeking to bring Omihi back to life; Arahna wore Bambara’s Cape of Leaves. This group found old tomes near the ruins of Old Luskan. These books were written by Carac McKinnon and were collectively titled "Legend of the Leaves," detailing the histories of the original Leaves. Reading these accounts, the New Leaves became enraged by Gambino’s betrayal. They resolved to hunt Gambino down first. The New Leaves traveled to Gambino’s island and infiltrated its defenses. They found the island abandoned, save for various aberrations upon which Gambino had conducted his experiments. Within the island, they discovered a catacomb. Inside, they located humanoid prisoners, also subjects of Gambino’s work. Among these prisoners was a human named Neverember. Neverember claimed to be the lord of a city, though he could not recall its name. The New Leaves rescued Neverember and the other captives from the island. They transported the former prisoners back to Phandalin, where the New Leaves established their base in the old Leaves Villa. Later, people who remembered Neverwinter recognized Neverember as the city’s lord, but his own memories were constructed solely from the stories he heard.
